-=Ana Wilkes=- Ana twirled the pen in her delicate fingers, staring at her notepad as she rode the elevator up to the bridal suite of the hotel. James Huckabee and Marjory Darcy were getting married today at the Northside Emmanuel Baptist Church, her husband, Pastor Noah Wilkes officiating the ceremony while she stepped in to help coordinate. It had been a last minute request, one her husband felt honor bound to agree to. So, the couple moved heaven and earth to ensure the ceremony happened on the original planned day. She'd press the end of the pen against her perfectly painted lips as the elevator doors opened. She would begin to walk out, but almost bumped into a man with a suitcase trying to enter. Obviously in a hurry and paying more attention to his phone, he'd almost shoot off a snarky remark as he looked up to see who it was. He wouldn't recognize her as a well known figure about town, but would be struck dumb by her appearance. He'd stammer out an apology and hold open the elevator door as she passed, not knowing if it was a feeling of relief or regret that she was out of his personal bubble. "Quite alright my dear. I hope you have a blessed day." She'd chuckle, her voice dark and husky, the british accent making her more mysterious. She'd leave him behind, already forgotten as the elevator doors closed behind her. Red soled heels marched their way down the carpeted hall of the hotel, until she finally came upon the bride's room. There were a few girls in the suite and one did not need sensitive hearing to tell that as she approached the door. Gently she'd knock, awaiting to be let in. "Thank you my dear." She'd smile brilliantly as the door was opened as she strode into the room. It would be as if all the previous tension would be sucked away just by the woman's mere presence. "Good morning Ladies." She'd say cheerfully, looking around with bright blue eyes. She had not met the bridal party and did not know there had been a change in roster, though the previous tension would not go unnoticed. "Is everything okay? Are we ready to move along with the events of the day?"

It wouldn't show if Mel was nervous about Mar announcing to the girls the change in maid of honor. She'd hang the garment bag on the garment rack and move back to Mar as she made the announcement. She wasn't surprised when Tonya made a fuss. She was one of Pen's buddies after all. Liquid courage. The alcohol had been helping. At least now Mar wasn't on the verge of tears. Mel felt bad that she had to defend her decision to have Mel step in. Mar had played defense for her that third summer when Erick didn't show up with the rest of the family. At that point Mel could hold her own against anyone but it always felt good when Mar had her back.
Mel would raise a brow when Tonya mentioned the dance. Fuck. That was right, some bridal parties had choreographed dances. But Mar's quick, confident response would draw Mel's attention. She nodded a bit a smile forming as the memory flooded back.
"Yes!"
A faint blush would appear as she mentioned Erick again and how graceful they were together.
"I remember the steps. But a quick refresher may not be bad."
Mel would take Mar's hands and follow her lead. After a few run throughs she would stop and pull back.
"Like you said, it's like riding a bike."
Mel would answer the knock at the door and open it. She recognized Anna from the gallery and smiled warmly.
"Mrs. Wilkes, it's a pleasure to see you again."
She stepped aside to let her enter. Mel would let Mar fill her in on the change in wedding party.

'Anna!' Majory would brighten up when Anna was let into the room. A bright smile flashing her face. 'It is now..' She'd move across the room and give Anna a big hug. 'Thank you so much for making all of this happen last minute. You're truly an angel.' She'd rub her eyes a bit and bit down on her lip. 'We ran into a few hiccups this morning my maid of honor trashly ashley decided to scare a groomsman by getting black out drunk and he dumped her at the ER. So she will not be in attendance. But Lissa here' moving slide a slender arm around Mel's waist 'is a perfect fit for ashleys dress and has graciously agreed against her better judgement to help a girl out on her wedding day.' She'd kiss Mel's cheek. 'couldn't ask for a long distance little sister.' she'd smile at mel and look at Anna. 'She knows the dance because one we did as kids so she should be good on that...unless you planned on the girls re-hearsing again?'

-=Ana Wilkes=- "Mel Benett. What a pleasure to see you here my dear." Ana smiled graciously to Mel before Marjory called out to her. Her attention pulled away as she was suddenly hugged. "Oh. My dear." She'd chuckle, reaching up to pat the bride on the head. She listened as Marjory explained her dilemma and how Mel came to the rescue. She'd shoot Mel a grateful smile before looking back to the bride. "Well my dear, they say God works in mysterious ways. Perhaps this was meant to be. We can only hope your poor friend can get the help she needs in the hospital. We will pray for her."Ana looked around the room at the other girls, now sensing where the hostility to come from. Jealousy never looked good on anyone and was a feeling that inspired sin. She hoped the girls would eventually forget this foolishness for their friend. After all, this was an important ceremony that begins Marjory and James' life together before the eyes of God, but as the years pass it will all be but a memory. "If you feel it necessary to rehearse then we will do so, but remember we are on a schedule and I am here you make it to the church on time."

Mel would wrap her arm around Mar's waist in return giving Ana a smile. The smile widened slightly as Mar kissed her on the cheek. She glanced from Mar to Ana.
"Perhaps."
Mel offered a smile in response to Ana's comment about God working in mysterious ways. Maybe it was meant to be. Mar did need a maid of honor after all. And Mel was able to step in but there was still a feeling she couldn't shake. Maybe it was just nerves. She'd look at Ana then to Mar.
"What is our timeline, exactly?"
Mel had a general idea of course. She knew what time the wedding was and she knew what time it was now. However, she didn't knownthe exact times for hair, make up, etc.

Marjory would glance down at her cell phone to look at the time. ‘Shit!’ she’d exclaim. She sometimes had the mouth of a sailor but on her wedding day it seemed like the perfect exception.
Anna might’ve been there to help direct but Marjor was bout to go bridezilla on her bridal party.
‘Alright ladies we have to be downstairs in the next 10 mins if you’re coming for mani/pedi’s. If not feel feel to stay here and drink mimosas, but if anyone gets too drunk you’re out of the wedding. I don’t care if it makes numbers odd or not. I’m not dealing with anymore of that shit on my wedding day.’
She’d sigh a bit and glance at Mel. ‘So the time line is is mani/pedis from 12:30-1:30 since we did brunch instead of breakfast and lunch separately. Then for you and me from 2:00-3:00 is hair, and basically 3:00-4:30 is makeup and dress time…. We have to be to the church by 5 so its hustle hustle hustle. Right Anna?’ she smiled at her, and looked at mel. ‘Basically after 1:30 everyones free until 4 to get their makeup and hair done if they were sure to coordinate with Anna since she was kind enough to volunteer with coordinating that. Then its time to get my wedding dress on . And depending on how much help I have it could take a long time. and we might have to just leave early and do it at the church.’
She shrugged and smiled glancing between Mel and Anna.

Mel watch and listen as Mar would tell the girls to get downstairs. She bit back a laugh when she told them if anyone was too drunk they were out. Some of the girls would start to move as they gathered what they needed to go downstairs.
She'd nod as Mar rattled off the times. It'd be a hustle for sure but Mel was confident that they'd get through everything to be to the church on time.
"Perfect." Mel grinned. "We should probably head downstairs then."
She gave Ana a smile.
"Since I am now the maid of honor it's part of my duty to make sure everything goes smoothly. So, please let me know if you need anything from me."
She'd look back to Mar.
"Alright, you just yelled at your bridal party to get downstairs so we should head down as well."

-=Ana Wilkes=- Ana would simply nod as Marjory gave out the marching orders. "Yes of course."She'd move towards the door and clap to get the girls attention, as if Marjory hadn't already done so. "Ladies there is an executive van parked in front of the hotel with a rose on it. If you could begin making your way in that direction we can begin with the pampering. Don't forget your flip flops. No close toed shoes for after the pedis."True to her word there would be a black van with a rose pictured upon it's sides, one of those fancy short busses with leather seats, sound system, and DVD player all for the group's comfort and entertainment. The chauffeur drove them to their destinations, first the mani pedis, then to hair and makeup. Before too long, the van would be pulling into the parking lot of the Northside Emmanuel Baptist Church. The ladies would descend and Ana would lead them into the vestibule. "Ladies. Be mindful that ful this point forward there is professional photographers in the building to record your special day. Mel, if you could lead the ladies downstairs. The large room where the teens meet has been converted into a place where the bride can prepare. I will return shortly. I will meet you there shortly, I just need to pick up something and let the Pastor know we've arrived."

Mel and Mar would be the last two to file out after the rest of the girls. Once they had cleared out someone came in to move the garment rack with dresses downstairs to ensure they would all be at the church for the girls.
Once at the church Ana would provide instructions and Mel would nod.
"This way, ladies."
Mel would lead the girls downstairs. She would set her bag down and move over to the garment rack that had been brought from the hotel room.
"Mar, let's get you ready first and then I'll get ready."
She was feeling more excited as the day went on. Mel couldn't wait to see Mar all dressed up and at the front of the church.

Marjory would nod at mel taking a deep breath. This was it. The moment they'd been dreading all day. Getting that damn dress on. Her mother hand insisted on one with LOTS of taffita. She felt like she was wearing an oversized tutu but she did look undeniably beautiful in it. Even if it was a pain in the ass to put on. 'So...it starts with a corset and we go from there.' she'd tell mel.
An hour later...Marjory was fanning herself and taking deep breaths. Everyone was chittering and lined up ready to make their grand entrances. But Marjory was feeling light headed and nervous. She'd let her breath out in wooshes here and there as she'd try and catch her breath.
'Lissa, I need your flask' she'd gasp. 'I can't breath. I don't know if I can do this...theres so many people...oh god...I might be sick...'
She was doing the best she could to pace the room but the train of her dress made it damn near impossible to do much of anything but freak out.

-=Ana Wilkes=- Ana had gone to check on her husband, letting Noah know everyone was within the building and the wedding could start on time. She did not often coordinate weddings, but seeing as this was a last minute request direct to her husband, how could she say no. Still, she could not say she was not enjoying the work. Back to business. She had returned back to the room with white wine and a charcuterie board. Just some light snacks with sliced of meat and cubes of cheese with grapes that wouldn't stain anyone's dress. She'd assist with everyone getting ready before leading them to the doors of the massive sanctuary. The walk down that isle would be long, but the stage had been set. Noah had seen to the technological marvel so that the Bride and Groom wouldn't have to worry. It would be a production akin to one of his Sunday sermons, with microphones, speakers, lights, cameras, and large monitors on either side so everyone in the place could both see and hear what was said at that alter. No pressure. "Fetching the Bride now." She'd smile, muttering into the discreet headset she shared with Noah so that all actions could be coordinated. What she would find would be a bride about to have a nervous breakdown. Ana would shut the door of the room quickly, moving over to Marjory and grasping her hands. "Deep breaths my girl. Slow. In the nose. Out the mouth. You have to breathe from your chest and not your diaphragm with a corset that tight. Everything is beautiful. You are beautiful. This will be a blessed day."There was a calming sensation about the woman and her words, as if Marjory couldn't help but relax and just find peace in the woman's presence. It was almost, magical. Once the hysterics were over, she'd reach out to take a hand of both girls, bowing her head and offering a short prayer that this day be filled with wonder and for God to shine his light on this couple that they may start their new journey together with his guiding hand. No matter what your belief, it was a genuine heartfelt prayer where she wished them the best. "Now then. Lets get you upstairs. All this fun cannot start with out you."

Mel put her hands on Mar's shoulders and looked her in the eyes.
"Breath, Mar. You absolutely can do this. You ate marrying the love of your life. And honestly, girl, you are one of the strongest people I know."
Mel pulled her into a tight hug before releasing her. She'd get her flask and hand it to Mar. Her cheeks would turn red as Ana joined them. She'd reach over and pull the flask from Mar.
"Sorry, Ana. I know that's probably not appropriate."
She put the flask away but not before taking a quick sip herself. Mar still hadn't calmed down and Mel was thankful Ana came when she did. Maybe she could offer some reassurance that Mel couldn't. It seemed to work. Mel would take Ana's hand and Mar's as Ana offered a prayer.
Richard would come down and stop in the door way. He had missed the freak out but could only imagine. He knew how nervous Martha had been at their wedding and it was her second.
"You both look stunning."
He offered as he entered the room. He gave Mel a hug before moving to Mar. He opened his arms for a hug and he'd kiss her on the cheek. He knew how proud her dad would be if he were here. He actually felt emotional even if it was showing completely. He'd nod in agreement with Ana.
"You don't want to keep them waiting."
Mel would grab her bouquet and head up the stairs. If nothing else it would give Richard and Mar a few moments alone. When they did come up, Mel would do a once over on Mar's dress making sure everything was in place. Once the last of the bridesmaids started down the aisle she would give it a few beats, take a deep breath and head down the aisle. She didn't look around. She just smiled and kept her eyes towards the front. Once there she'd take her place.

Jory would slowly take a breath and a swig of the flask before it was taken from her. She'd give Anna a panicked look but it would fade at the clutch of the womans hand. She'd hold it in her own, mumbling her own prayer under her breath before saying 'Amen.' She felt so much better. 'Thank you Anna..' She'd say. The woman truly was a god send. She was comforting in ways her own mother was incapable of being ever since Edward (her father) had died. She'd look up and glow all over again seeing her uncle coming in to save the day. She'd smile when Richard entered. A pleased blush would touch her cheeks as she hugged her beloved uncle kissing his cheek in return.
'Uncle Dickey!' she'd say so relieved he was there. She'd take a deep breath almost begging Mel not to leave but her uncle was there. She'd face him reaching up to adjust the veil that was still resting in the back and hadn't been pulled forward yet. 'I can't believe I'm doing this. I just with Dad and Erick were here...' Her voice cracked and trembled and she had to widen her eyes extra wide so she wouldn't cry at her own wedding. She'd reach up and dab her eyes.
'you sure I look? I'm not going to send James running from the Alter?' she'd sniff a little looking at her uncle now that they were alone. She'd take another deep breath and reach up to pull down the wedding veil adjusting it with richards help before picking up her boquet. 'You're right...can't keep them waiting...' She'd adjust the train of her wedding gown to make sure it wouldn't snag on the steps when her and richard took them.
'ok I'm ready to do this...I can't thank you enough for everything you've done for us. I'm so glad you're still with us.' She'd impulsivly kiss her uncles cheek again. Next thing she knew they were walking. And before she knew it the old and traditional 'here comes the bride' music begin as they began to walk down the aisle her arm linked through richards. Suddenly seeing James up ahead got her excited again, the butterflies of excitement and tears of joy were sparking at her eyes, she'd glance around the witnesses for both families. She saw her younger sister with her mother eagerly taking photographs from her phone when she wasn't taking selfies. Everything turned to whitenoise the closer they got to the alter. Sooner than she knew she was handing her boquet to Mel, Richard was kissing her cheek and handing her off to her future husband. And Her hands were holding James as they stood in front of the pastor.
Everything was white noise but the beating of her heart and her breath that she kept holding staring at james as he smiled back at her. She knew the pastor was talking but she wasn't hearing him yet.

PRELUDE:
~Music plays softly before Mar's arrival~
PROCESSIONAL:
Pastor Noah Wilkes stood at the pulpit, relaxed and dressed neatly, as Ana stood close by and the crowd murmured. The wedding party was in place. Everyone stood as the organist played "Here comes the Bride", and everyone turned to face the bride, in pure awe of the gorgeous ceremony.
Noah addressed everyone with a warm, genuine tone.
INTRODUCTION:
"Be seated, everybody, thank you for joining us on this pleasant occasion.
There are 7.7 billion people in the world and most of them are not here at this wedding. How special does that make you? Out of the billions of people living on the planet earth Jim and Mar have asked you to join them as they enter into the amazing institution of marriage. So, the least you can do is put your phone on silent, ok?
Thank y'all kindly. Now, here we go.
Ladies and Gentlemen, finding “the one” out of all the people in the entire world should be impossible! But James Huckabee and Marjory Darcy found each other! What do you think are the chances this would happen? I don’t know – I’m not great at probability– but it’s seems pretty unlikely. Yet, here they are, in front of their friends and family making the impossible seem not only possible, but inevitable.
Was it destiny? Happenstance? Total dumb luck? Who cares? The important thing is it’s happening! Jim and Mar are getting married. Today! Right now! No, really. Right now!"
EXCHANGE OF VOWS:
"Whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the forces that control this universe want this to happen! Jim and Mar, do you have your vows?"
~EXCHANGE OF VOWS~
"Now, present the rings."
EXCHANGE OF RINGS:
"Do you James Huckabee take Marjory Darcy to be your lawful wedded wife? To love and through and through until death do you part?"
~waits for response~ "Place the ring on her left ring finger, Jim. You know how this works, I think." Noah chuckles.
"And do you, Marjory Darcy, take James Huckabee to be your lawful wedded w- excuse me. uh husband? To love and through and through until death do you part?"
~waits for response~ "Now, Place the ring on his left ring finger."
~MUSIC plays as they speak softly to one another, the sanctuary is quiet to give them a few moments~
Noah spoke just as the song ended.
"Weddings are expensive aren't they? Think about what currencies you use throughout life. Cash, Credit, trade, VISA and MasterCard, tips for wedding officials... Ahem. We'll settle up later, Jim."
Pauses for laughter, grinning naturally.
"No, no... back on topic. This is your day! My point is, when we talk about currency, we all forget about time. Precious time. We must all find time... and spend it with another who loves us unconditionally. If we can spend our most valuable currency that wisely, we can count ourselves among the lucky, rich beyond measure.
Would you agree? Yes? Then I'll hush up. God bless this Union. This is what a good investment ... of time, looks like."
Pastor Wilkes shook his hands to the heavens quickly, as he glanced at his wife Ana with a slight smirk.
"Never want for as long as you live...instead may you live as long as you want."
He glanced back to the couple.
"That’s it, you crazy kids, you did it, you’re married! You may now, for all the world to see, kiss your first kiss as newlyweds!"
Noah raises his hands. "All rise!
As an ordained minister and honorary Justice of the Peace, under the state of California, I am happy to introduce to the congregation, Jim and Mar Huckabee!"

~EXCHANGE OF VOWS~
James:
Marjory, I can't imagine being on this journey with anyone else. I know this is just the beginning of my most amazing adventure yet. You are my other half and I am woefully incomplete without you. I promise to cherish each day we have together. Yours is the last face I want to see before I go to sleep and the first thing I see when I wake up in the morning. You are my light in the darkness, the air I breath, my purpose. I will always support you in your endeavors and promise to be your biggest cheerleader. I know together we will navigate whatever storms come our way. I promise to love you until my dying breath. And occasionally, make you breakfast in bed. -he'd wink at her- I love you with all of my heart.
Marjory:
James, through the years we have faced obstacles, some harder than others, that have helped us build the strong foundation of our relationship. It has shown me your unwavering love, constant support, and silent strength. I promise to encourage you to follow your dreams. I promise to continue to challenge you to be the best version of yourself. I promise to make you laugh, when you're taking life too seriously. I promise to love you unconditionally. I promise to put you first and never lose our spark. I vow to always be your protector, and confidante, responsible for making sure your every need is met, every want is reached, and every dream realized. It's said that he who finds a wife, finds a good thing and obtains favor from God. From this life we have built to get to this moment, this great moment in our life, looking into your beautiful eyes, I vow to always be your good thing, with love in my heart, always by your side, to my last breath. I love you.
"Now, present the rings."
EXCHANGE OF RINGS:
"Do you James Huckabee take Marjory Darcy to be your lawful wedded wife? To love and through and through until death do you part?"
“I do” "Place the ring on her left ring finger, Jim. You know how this works, I think." Noah chuckles.
"And do you, Marjory Darcy, take James Huckabee to be your lawful wedded w- excuse me. uh husband? To love and through and through until death do you part?"
“ I do.” "Now, Place the ring on his left ring finger."
Majory would giggle a little holding onto James hands. ‘I love you.’ she’d whisper to him smiling behind the veil. Everything including pastor wilkes as white noise to her. She shifted slightly as the Pastor was coming to a close with his speech that she didn’t catch a word of until he was telling them they could kiss.
“That’s it, you crazy kids, you did it, you’re married! You may now, for all the world to see, kiss your first kiss as newlyweds!"
Marjory would hold her breath as James lifted her veil up meeting her eyes. She’d close hers seconds before she’d feel his lips upon her own, as they share their first real kiss as a wedded couple. Pastor Noah’s voice finally breaking through the white noise in her head.
"All rise! As an ordained minister and honorary Justice of the Peace, under the state of California, I am happy to introduce to the congregation, Jim and Mar Huckabee!"
Heat would stain her cheeks as she’d turn her hand gripping onto James as they turned to face the gathering as a newly wedded couple. Her heart was pounding. It didn’t feel real but it did. Her heart was swelling with pride, she glanced at her side of the guests. Her mom was openly crying and poor tilly was handing her kleenex straight from a box she’d brought with them. She’d glance at her new mother in law and she too was crying. But not so dramatically as Darla. She’d take a deep breath still holding James hand.
‘You ready?’ she’d ask, as they would have to now retreat back up the aisle as newly weds…
As the bride and groom walked up the aisle, the wedding party filing in behind them leaving the pastor and his wife alone at the Alter. A man dressed like a groomsman would approach from the audience as soon as the wedding party had passed through the doors. His back to the members of the audience as everyone was distracted and paying attention to the excitement of the parting wedding party.. From his hand he would hand over an unmarked white envelope full of cash.
‘For all your troubles with this last minute arrangement…as well as your regular donation as promised.’ He’d shake hands with the pastor and make small talk with him and Anna until the church had emptied. Then and only then the man would bid his leave from the pastor and his wife.
The Reception….. At some ritzy country club
The bus that Anna had arranged transported the wedding party after pictures were taken to the country club where they were holding the reception. Live music would greet the guests as a live band played. Dinning tables had been set up around the designated dance floor, place cards at every chair for people to take assigned seats. The bridal party at the lengthy table behind the dance floor. The singer of the band would wrap up the song she’d been singing. She had a bluesy lounge singer voice that paired well with the band.
‘Good evening everybody…’ she’d say into the microphone once everyone was seated. ‘Now I know ya’ll were expecting some traditional wedding happenings…but the bride and groom have a little something else in mind this evening….’ She’d smile ‘If I could have the entire wedding party take their places on the dance floor….’ she’d start ‘And may I also have the newly weds join the party in the center and we can give our fine guests one last beautiful treat this evening before we get to serious.’
The groomsmen would all line up around the square dance floor each of them wearing a glittering black Mask that covered their entire faces. Their hands covered in white gloves. To keep themselves ‘anonymous’ even though everyone already knew who their partners were , each of the brides maid was paired with a partner in advance.
The groomsmen would bow to their partners, and the bridesmaids would curtsey in return, the men would offer their hands to their partners before pulling them into them, their hands on their partners waist holding their other hand, while the ladies put their hands upon their partners shoulders. They stood there waiting for the music to start. The bride and groom would slowly join them standing in the middle of the squarish circle.
The opening piano strains of ‘need you now’ from Lady A began and the singer began to croon to the dancers.
"Picture perfect memories, Scattered all around the floor. Reaching for the phone cause I can't fight it anymore…"
The dancers would start to dance the first few steps of the waltz
"And I wonder if I ever cross your mind for me it happens all the time…"
Marjory and James would slow dance the waltz in the center as everyone around them danced at a faster pace, spinning and turning their partners around and around the couple.
"It's a quarter after one I'm all alone and I need you now.. Said I wouldn't call, but I lost all control And I need you now. And I don't know how I can do without I just need you nooooww......"
At the chorus the dancers would go into full whirl of the cotillion version of the waltz where they danced and twirled around the married couple in time with the music as the singer continued to sing.
When the song was over everyone would clap the groomsmen would bow and the bridesmaids curtsied to each other and they would part and retake their assigned seats. From there the traditional dances would take place between the offical newlyweds, and then with the parents. Once all the traditional dances were done the Wedding band would finish up and pack up while the DJ set up.
And everyone began to get ready for their speeches to the bride and groom.
